With plastic surgery becoming more and more popular, it is evident that many women are seeking to recreate their features into an image of something else. Rather than looking for their own beauty and enhancing it, they are looking for a quick fix to enhance their beauty by changing what they have naturally. Luckily, it is just as easy, and much less painful, to enhance the beauty you already have. Everyone has a degree of natural beauty, and this is important to remember as you think about enhancing features that you already possess, rather than creating features that you never really had.

The eyes are generally considered the most beautiful part of the body. They are seen as “windows to the soul,” and few people decline to comment on a pair of striking eyes. Luckily, the eyes are also the easiest features to enhance. It can be done simply or elaborately, but however you do it, the eyes can be made to “pop” and catch attention, drawing others’ gazes from less attractive areas of the body to the eyes.

One way to enhance the eyes is to enhance the eye lashes. Many people simply wear mascara to accomplish this. However, mascara can be messy and annoying. Additionally, it can also spread infection and disease to the eyes. Eyelash extensions can be a desirable alternative to wearing mascara to lengthen and thicken the lashes. Lash extensions are small, individual pieces of synthetic material that are made to look like real lashes. They are as light as real lashes, and they attach directly to the top of the lash, rather than the skin of the eyelid (like false eyelashes). This can enhance the natural beauty of the eyes in a very natural way.

Another way to enhance the eyes is by using eye shadow. It does not follow that the shadow has to be dark and imposing, leaving other people no choice but to notice the eyes. Rather, light eye shadow often looks more attractive and helps the eye look more open and lighter. Eye shadow with a shimmer has become especially popular as it adds a pleasing sheen that attracts attention to the eye without immediately repulsing the attention. Additionally, flesh colored, non-shimmering eye shadow can be used below the eyes to reduce the appearance of dark circles.

Enhancing the lips is another hot topic when it comes to flaunting your good looks. A moist pair of lips (not slimy and wet, mind you) are a pleasure to behold and to listen to. When you wear lipstick, make sure that it is a moisturizing lipstick that also contains sunscreen. The lips do not have the melatonin that is present in the skin to offer protection. Therefore, lips too exposed to the sun easily dry and crack. But one need not wear lipstick to enhance the lips. Even a faint lip gloss can draw attention and give the lips a more naturally beautiful look. Lip liner is a very valuable tool in helping enhance the look of the lips by making them appear thicker and fuller.

Just a touch of light rouge on the cheeks can help draw the eye up the face, resulting in a face that does not look quite so chubby. The key is to not overdo the blush, just adding color so that there is the look of a healthy glow. By carefully following the cheekbone almost to the edge of the hairline, it is possible to accent the cheeks while drawing attention away from a little extra fat that might be present in the face. Pinching the cheeks can also help, and it looks more natural, but this can fade away and be painful and annoying to boot.

Finally, it is possible to enhance one’s natural beauty by careful use of skin care products. There are many creams designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other fine lines, as well as to moisturize and exfoliate. Exfoliation adds a glow to the face, as dead skin cells are sloughed away to reveal young and healthy cells beneath. These skin care products can smooth the surface of the face and allow for a healthier glow. Additionally, face creams made with parelastin help keep the skin supple, and there are creams that help firm the skin to more naturally reduce sagging.

In a society that emphasizes the beauty of those six-foot tall supermodels who weigh in at a light 120 pounds, it is becoming all too easy for the average woman to feel inadequate and not very beautiful. Pictures of super thin models plaster the covers of popular magazines and the screens of television sets around the world with the message of ‘this is what beautiful is.’ However, for the average woman in today’s world looking in the mirror does not result in seeing the reflection of a six-foot tall, 120-pound woman. The average American woman stands five foot four and weighs 140 pounds, seven inches shorter and twenty three pounds heavier than the average American model. The fact that the entertainment industry uses models who are, on average, thinner than 98% of American women puts an unrealistic image of what is beautiful in the heads of Americans. In fact, studies have shown that four in five American women are not satisfied with the way they look. In fact, obsession with being ‘perfect’ can be the downfall in women finding their own beauty. You will surely find that the real secret to being beautiful is a positive outlook on your own image.

The diet crusade is something that has been somewhat of a plague on American society for some time. Americans, particularly women, are in many cases encouraged to diet, and in some cases starve themselves, to obtain what society deems “the perfect body.” In fact, it is not a cutback in calories that these women truly need. By being made to feel good about the way they look, women would find that their overall outlook on themselves and their lives would improve drastically. Women who feel good about the way they look are happier in their day to day lives, are less hung up about what they eat and counting calories, and are less likely to have problems with depression and/or anxiety.Â

Although diets can provide a route to a healthier lifestyle, extreme dieting can pose a major problem. Eating right rather than compulsively and daily exercise can be paired to present the best lifestyle choice and to increase your self esteem. It is shown that people who take time to exercise each day feel less stressed about work and home life, and also benefit from the rewards of exercising the human body. If you have a jam-packed schedule simply find twenty to thirty minutes each day to fit in some kind of exercise. You will be surprised at how wonderful it makes you feel.Â

There are a number of other ways to help you boost the image you have of yourself. These things can be as simple as writing down a compliment to yourself each day. Recording one thing you like about your appearance each day will soon add up to a list of traits that you will find add up to one thing – beauty. In order to have a positive outlook on yourself and your life, you must put yourself in positive situations. It is important that you surround yourself with positive people. People who put you down for any reason are not worth having in your life. The right people can make all the difference in making you a happier, more positive feeling person. As important as friends and family are, taking time for yourself is also vital. Perhaps book a relaxing appointment at a local spa. You will be surprised at how taking the time to fit in a facial or manicure will make you feel pampered and beautiful.Â

In keeping a positive outlook on yourself there is one thing that is the most important of all. It is imperative that you refuse to buy into the negative attitudes that plague our culture. With supermodels being put on a pedestal and average people being bombarded with the concept that they are not as beautiful as these super thin models, the idea of what is healthy and beautiful has been completely skewed. Being six-feet tall and 120 pounds does not make someone beautiful. Beauty shines from the inside out. Having a positive attitude about yourself will reflect through and be evident to everyone around you, no matter what your size.

For years the extent of grooming for men was a haircut and a quick shave. However, in today’s society men are faced with a number of grooming options that may seem, to some, a little on the feminine side. Men now have the option of partaking in almost every grooming practice that women do. Advancements in grooming and changes of attitudes have allowed men to take care of their hair, skin and nails in ways that men never have in the past.Â

A man’s hands can become rough and callused. For some men, this does not seem like much of a concern. However, some men may be surprised to know that something as small as taking care of their hands can prove to be a huge turn on for women. Manicures have long been thought of as a practice reserved for women only. But in recent years more and more men have taken up the process of keeping up with the care of their hands and nails. In addition to providing men with a rejuvenating process for their hands, manicures can also prove to be a relaxing and stress-relieving process. Most manicures begin with the client soaking his hands or having them placed in a warm wrap of some sorts. After that the skin of the hands is exfoliated, nails are trimmed and cuticles are cut to give hands and nails a soft and appealing appearance. Many manicures also include a hand massage which many men will find to be a very relaxing experience. In addition to discovering how relaxing a manicure can be, men who have never experienced a manicure may also be surprised at the positive response a manicure will get from their partner. Soft, well-treated hands can make a huge difference.

There are a number of other treatments in addition to manicures that men can pursue to enhance their grooming.  One of these treatments is the facial. Facials provide customers with skin care in perhaps the most important area to groom – the face. Keeping the skin on your face clear and clean can make a huge difference when it comes to personal hygiene and grooming. Like manicures, facials were also long thought of as a practice only acceptable for women. However, in recent years facials have become more and more prevalent for men as well. The human face is made up of sensitive skin and should be cared for more carefully than other areas of the body that are covered by tougher skin. Facials can cleanse pores like no other processes, resulting in healthy skin that will undoubtedly be noticed. Since many men overlook the fact that skincare is of the utmost importance – particularly skincare for the face – facials can make a world of difference for those who have long neglected the skin on their face. Facial skin can vary from person to person but can often be either very oily or very dry. Facials can help to change either of these conditions, moisturizing and cleansing the skin better than any facial cleanser will do.

What you need to do is figure out what is important to you, and what kind of life you want to lead. If work is the most important thing to you, do a little more work and cut back in other areas. If you feel like work is taking over your life and not leaving enough time for family, try to use your time more efficiently at work. Or leave community involvement out altogether so that if you cannot take time off work you are spending time with your family instead of rushing back out the door to plan some event.

The hardest part of achieving balance, however, is looking for it for yourself in time to spend alone or in adjusting your diet so that your physical self is in balance with your mental and emotional selves. If getting time alone is something you would like to make a priority, but you don’t have time, then something definitely needs to give. Most people really only need and hour or two to do something that they really enjoy doing each day, whether it is reading, watching a ball game, taking a walk, gardening, or just sitting or lying still, thinking about whatever comes to mind. This is one of the most important things you can do to help yourself achieve balance. Do a little less so that you can spend more time with yourself.

Figure out what you want out of life and prioritize. Cut back on things that are lower on your list. Less really is more when you are looking to live a more balanced life. When you have time to collect yourself and to get to where you are headed, then you feel less rushed. And if you have time to spend with yourself and your family, you may just find that you feel more fulfilled doing fewer activities than you felt when you were running around trying to catch up.

In today’s world, we seemed to be pulled in many directions. The demands of family, work, community life, time for self, and other activities all vie for our time. And when we have kids, those family obligations only increase. Or if we are in graduate school, trying to balance school, work, homework, and an occasional night out. Plus it seems like everywhere we turn there are people clamoring for you to do this or that.

So, how can we possibly achieve balance in such a fast-paced world where so much is no expected of us? The answers aren’t simple, and neither is making the changes that are required to achieve more balance in life.

Advertisers bombard us at every turn with messages of time saving devices, and we read in magazines about tricks that will help us run our lives more efficiently. But the gadgets advertisers sell often only add to the cacophony, not slow it. And often time following tips to make life more efficient just leads to using the extra time to frantically try to do something else. The truth is that our society has become so busy that balance is not really sought. We are expected to run here and there, ashamed if we have a few minutes of idle time, and balance, which is crucial for our mental and emotional selves, is often overlooked.

Family, work, community life, and time out for oneself are all noble goals. They are all important parts of our mental and emotional lives, helping us stay connected and offering fulfillment. Unfortunately what happens is that maybe one thing begins to swallow the other things. Or, even more likely, we run around constantly harried and unhappy, seeking balance, but unable to achieve it because we think that balance means appropriating equal time to everything we are doing.

True balance, however, involves prioritization. It is not about devoting equal time; finding balance about achieving equanimity in your private life, feeling good about what you are doing without feeling constantly rushed. This means that sometimes you have to cut back. You may have to say no to being on a committee or two. You can still be involved, but not as heavily. Sometimes it means telling your kids that they can only do two extracurricular activities instead of four or five. Most kids do not want to feel any more rushed than you do, and assuming that it is necessary for them to participate in four different activities outside school can mess up their sense of balance.
